Fluffy Frosting

on 2-14-2010 in Foodie

This frosting is smooth, creamy, and light. To me, it’s more like whipped cream than many frostings (especially, those icing-like frostings favored by many bakeries and cupcake shops)… so good!

What goes in:
1 C milk
5 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 C butter
1 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Begin by whisking 5 tablespoons of flour into 1 cup of milk until smooth. Heat over low heat until thickened.

Set the milk mixture aside and cover with plastic. This will prevent the mixture from developing a coat while cooling.

Blend butter, sugar, and vanilla extract together until light and fluffy. (I honestly don’t really know what light and fluffy looks like, but I knew I didn’t want chunks in my frosting, so I just left my electric mixer on medium speed until it was a somewhat smooth consistency.)

Add the cooled milk mixture ΒΌ cup at a time, combining after each addition. Blend until it is of the desired consistency.

ahhh... homemade frosting!
